Our Journey
NightGuides started in 2023 as a freelance awareness team, working the floor at clubs and festivals across the Netherlands. NightGuides was founded by Mila Haj-Kasem, a transfemme who kept running into the same gap on Dutch dancefloors: no one designated to notice when something was going wrong, and nowhere near enough spaces built with queer and trans safety in mind from the start. What began as a small, queer-led crew looking out for people on dancefloors has grown into a recognised presence in Dutch nightlife: trusted by venues, security teams, and EHBO officials for a professional, non-judgmental approach to safety.
Between 2023 and September 2025, our team supported guests in 339 cases across 54 events — everything from a bad trip to harassment and discrimination, always with the same goal: making sure a night out doesn't turn into someone's worst night.
As the work grew, so did the need for a structure that could carry it further: more training, more consistency, more room to say yes to venues and communities who needed us. That's why we founded Stichting NightGuides in 2025, turning an awareness initiative into a foundation with a clear mission: to keep making nightlife safer, and to make sure that work is sustainable, accountable, and built to last.
